The Poets’ Republic is a poetry forum and magazine produced from a subversive outpost of north-east Scotland.

 

The late, great poet Adrian Mitchell once said: “Most people ignore most poetry because most poetry ignores most people.”

The guiding principle of The Poet's Republic is that they strive to publish poetry that is hard to ignore.

They favour poetry that is irreverent, provocative and alive to great public debates – such as food banks, war, or independence – and they shun the insular or obscure.

 

 

 

 

From The Poet's Republic Manifesto:

 

We will always charge as little as necessary to cover the magazine’s costs, and to ensure it reaches as wide an audience as possible.

 

We believe in taking poetry on to the streets, to pubs, cafes, festivals, football stadiums… wherever there is a platform to extend The Poets’ Republic.

 

 

 

 

From The Poet's Republic Manifesto:

 

‘S e foram is iris ùr-nodha bàrdachd, ga chruthachadh ann an àite iomallach is àraid air taobh ear-thuath na h-Alba, a th’ ann am Poblachd nam Bàrd – an clò, air loidhne, air an àrd-ùrlar is far-theachdaireachd.

 

Thuirt, aon uair, an sàr-bhàrd Adrian Mitchell, nach maireann: “leigidh a’ mhòr-cuid bàrdachd seachad mar a leigeas bàrdachd a’ mhòr-chuid fhèin seachad.”

 

‘S e am prìomh-rùn againne bàrdachd fhoillseachadh nach gabh a leigeil seachad, idir.‘S fheàrr linn bàrdachd a tha neo-dhleasnach, buaireasach, is beòthail a thaobh dheasbadan mòra – leithid bhancaichean-bhìdh, cogaidh, no neo-eisimeilachd – is nach eil idir cuingichte no cumhang.

 

Tha an tàille againn cho beag ‘s a ghabhas gus cosgaisean na h-irise a dhìon is gus a toirt do luchd-leughaidh fad’ is farsaing.

 

Nach cùm sibh cluais ri claistneachd airson nan tachartasan againn; thigibh ann gus gairm-aighir, fochaideadh, no furan a dhèanamh fhad ‘s a tha sibh nar cuideachd.
